A Regional Problem-Solving Educational Program Based on the Town & Gown Initiative

Introduction of University-Wide Mandatory Courses in Collaboration with Local Governments

Under the Town & Gown Initiative, a structured system has been established in which local governments, led by the mayor and supported by all municipal departments, collaborate with university educational programs to solve regional issues. Through this initiative, a multicultural collaborative course focused on regional problem-solving will be implemented as a university-wide mandatory course.

Step-Up Multicultural Collaborative Learning System

A step-up educational system has been developed by systematically integrating domestic and international multicultural collaborative courses, providing learning experiences which progress by academic year. This system enables students to develop advanced problem-solving skills from the early stages of liberal arts education. By continuously learning from the first year of undergraduate studies through graduate school, students can integrate theory and practice for a comprehensive education.

Expansion of a Nationwide Educational Project

Within the Japan Town & Gown Initiative Promotion Council, led by Hiroshima University, multicultural collaborative education is positioned as a model project. This initiative will be expanded and shared with member universities and local governments across Japan.
